The Early Days Welding in Las Vegas, NV

Larrie Thomas was first certifed in 1967.  Seen here, he is welding on top of the Circus Circus merry-go-round before 1972.  Larrie was employed with Wells Cargo and  TAB contractors for some years before starting his own company Certified Welding in 1977.  Also shown here is Larrie standing next to a track hoe bucket with ripper pockets that  he made faster than could be orderd from the factory about 1978.  Larrie has welded on nearly every major water resivour and pipe line in Las Vegas, working  with Tiberti Construction and the Las Vegas Valley Water District and APS (American Piping Services).  Other notable projects, were Hoover Dam, Southern Nevada Water Authority, City of Las Vegas, Clark County, Clark County Water Reclamation District and others.

There's no substitute for experience.

I remember (helping) my dad Larrie Thomas on lots of welding jobs in the 1970's.    I don't ever remember "learning to weld".  Me and my brothers had seen Dad weld  and torch and grind so many things that we always knew what to do.  The first job I remember doing my self was some utility box covers for an undergound company.  I welded them up with 7024 and it seemed so easy...  I guess it was easy.  My younger brother Devin Thomas was a very talented  welder in the 70's  and  80's and  was soon making knives  like Uncle Bill (Dad's brother).  Devin has  become one of the best damascus steel makers in the world.   Through the 80's I tried to avoid  welding, thinking it was too hot, too dirty, and  I needed to be different.  I was a pipe threader / fabricator.  I was  a bookkeeper.   I was an electrician, I was a computer person, I even delivered bread and tried amway.  About 1990 I went to work for Dad.  In 1994  I started  Heavy Duty Welding and in 2008 merged with Dad's company Certified Welding
